Strategic Net Zero for NHS Leaders
“Every decision we take, every choice we make, contributes to delivering Net Zero Carbon”
Introduction
The Trust’s clinical strategy will develop, monitor and measure sustainable models of care to prioritise interventions which simultaneously improve patient care and community wellbeing while addressing climate change, carbon reduction, broader sustainability issues and incorporate the Trusts values kindness – fairness – ingenuity – determination into the sustainable decision-making process.
The NHS Long Term Plan sets out a commitment to deliver a new service model for the 21st century. For the NHS to reach net zero emissions, new service models must include a focus on sustainability and reduced carbon emissions.
Applying net zero principles across all clinical services is critical, considering carbon reduction opportunities in the way care is delivered now and in the future is essential.

What is it ?
Planit-sustainability is a learning programme designed to increase the understanding and decision-making around sustainable development and Climate Net Zero.
It uses a sophisticated learning simulation at the heart of an interactive workshop, either face-to-face or online.
2-5 hour workshop (depending on need)
Delegate numbers between 8-32
Planit-Sustainability models the life of a community. Teams play the role of a local partnership. The partnership need to make the community more sustainable. Win-win-win solutions need to be negotiated and incidents avoided. Finally, after each round, the teams are scored on sustainability indicators and public opinion. Delegates get to see the ‘big picture’ and to develop win-win solutions, which makes the issues real, relevant, and manageable.
